Christ the King Presbyterian Church

VISION 2024

What is our vision for 2024?

We are beginning an exciting new chapter at Christ the King. At a recent congregational meeting, we announced our plans for start actively looking for church property of our own. We have been blessed to be renting our current space for the past 10 years. But we believe the time is right for us to beginning preparing for the next 10 years, and beyond.

What does that mean for 2024? We are taking the following steps to best prepare ourselves for the future. Our desire is to be good stewards of the resources and opportunity God has provided for us, so we will be active in pursuing these goals, but in humility knowing that ultimately “every decision is from the LORD” (Prov. 16:33).

With that in mind, these are the three steps that comprise our vision for 2024:

  1. Incorporating our church in the state of Missouri

  2. Establishing and growing a Building Fund

  3. Creating a Vision Committee that will prepare us as we take these next steps

We want this webpage to provide a brief overview of each of these strategic steps, with information about how you can get involved. If you are excited about partnering with us to achieve this 2024 Vision, then keep reading!

Step 1 | Incorporation

The first action we are taking is to incorporate our church in Missouri. In order to do this, we are drafting corporate bylaws and articles of incorporation that will then be voted on at a congregational meeting at a later date. At that same meeting, trustees will be elected to serve as officers of the corporation. These corporate officers will then be given the responsibility of buying, selling, and mortgaging property for the church. The corporation will always serve the church and her Session, and never the other way around. This relationship between church and corporation will be written into the incorporation documents, which church members will have time to review in advance of the vote being taken. The language used will be taken directly from our Book of Curch Order, 25-7 (see image below).

Please contact the Session with any questions on our plans for incorporation. More information will be distributed as we move forward to vote.

Step 2 | Building Fund

In preparation to purchase property, we have established a new Building Fund. This fund will be used for the down payment and renovation (if needed) of a property for our church.

Our current fund balance is $38,000. Our goal for 2024 is to raise that total to $100,000. Would you prayerfully cosinder giving to this fund? To give online, please use our secure online giving portal, and select the “Building Fund” in the drop down. Or give in person on Sunday by designating cash or check gifts for the “Building Fund.”

If you have not signed up for our Newsletter, please do so in order to stay updated on our property search!

Step 3 | Vision Committee

The third strategic initiative we are starting in 2024 is our Vision Committee, which has four goals to Define, Develop, Write, and Implement.

  1. DEFINE. What is the identity of Christ the King? Who are we? What are our values? What is our mission? This committee will work to collect answers to these questions, and more, from the members and regular attenders of our church. In this sense, though not every member of CTK will be on the committee, everyone will have the opportunity to provide their voice for what CTK means to them!

  2. DEVELOP. Having identified core values and shared mission from CTKers, the committee will then work to develop new visual branding that reflects our church’s identity. This will include a new church logo, color palette, imagery, typography, bulletin design, and more.

  3. WRITE. In addition to a clear and consistent brand, the committee will work to synthesize our church’s identity into clear statements of our mission, vision, and values. When people ask “What is CTK all about?” we will be able to point them here.

  4. IMPLEMENT. Having done the work of developing and writing new messaging, the committee will then finish their work by implementing these changes on our website and social media accounts, printing newly designed bulletins and other church resources, and helping to spread the word.

How will the committee do its work?

The committee will begin meeting in March with a goal of finishing their work by the end of September. At that initial meeting, other meeting dates will be decided. Meetings will be held at least monthly from March - September, with more meetings held as needed. The work will also be delegated to individuals and subcommittees who will then make recommendations to the committee as the whole. The amount of time and effort needed to serve on this committee will vary based upon each person’s skill set and the committee’s needs.

The Vision Committee is itself a subcommittee of the Session of Christ the King. As such, final approval for all recommendations from the Vision Committee will come from the Session. Pastor Levi Bakerink will serve as the chairman of this committee.

Regular updates will be provided to the congregation, with feedback always welcomed and appreciated.

How can I help?

If you are interested in serving on the Vision Comittee, please contact Levi Bakerink. Here are some considerations for those wanting to serve:

  • Committee members must also be members of CTK.

  • Because of the importance of this work, we are looking for those who feel able to commit to meeting 7-10 times between March and September, with ability and willingness to put in work beyond just those meetings.

  • We will prioritize assembling the committee with members from every age group and demographic, men and women.

  • In order to make the work run efficiently, we will keep the size of the committee to around 8-10 people, with generally only one member of each household representing.

  • Depending on the response, it is possible that not all who desire to serve will be able to, and we appreciate your understanding if that is the case.

The committee will be populated during the month of February and will hold its first meeting in March.

We are looking for humble and hardworking people who are excited about CTK and what God can and will do through us this year! If that’s you, then please let Levi know using the button below.

Lastly, would you please pray with us for wisdom that we would be faithful to Christ our King, and to our mission as His church? Would you pray that we would be a light shining on the hill in our community and in our city of Joplin? Would you pray that we would seek, more than anything else, to grow in holiness and in love for one another, and that the name of Jesus Christ would be exalted in our lives and in our church?

Above all else, that is our Vision for 2024.
